Briggs doesn't expect a different outcome with the door but he tries it anyway. He ends up resting his forehead against the door. "Shit. Okay. Yes, this is bad."

He needs to think. He's not willing to believe the house is burned, not until he sees it for himself. If he starts thinking about that he won't stop. So he won't think about it. There still must be a way out of this. It would be easier to work this out if he didn't have every nerve in his body on over drive and a dick that stopped listening to him hours ago.
