Mike certainly considers trying to widen one of the vents, but they just don't have the time. He does eventually check the closet, and deeply regrets doing so. He even takes in some of the items around the room. He'd much rather use the gun tucked into the waistband of his pants, but bullets run out. A backup is good to keep in mind.
"You have to," Mike said, staring at one of the vents. "I made a deal to get you out." He looked up, knowing all too well how much Briggs would fight for him. "One man is not more important than the rest of the house. I've already taken one for the team, so you gotta make that worth it. Someone's gotta be on the outside to protect everyone else, and there's no way he's letting me walk out of here."
